Why It’s Important for Seniors to Exercise

Assisted Living Facility
8/4/2016

Regular exercise is important for any age group, but it is even more so for seniors. Everyone knows that leading a very sedentary lifestyle has serious negative effects on your health and even your immune system. A large majority of seniors over 65, between sleeping and sitting down, spend most of their time completely inactive. As people get older, it becomes harder to move around because of arthritis and joint issues, but continuously incorporating fitness into your daily routine can slow down the progression of weakening muscles and bones. In this post we will look at specific reasons why exercise is so beneficial for seniors.

Building a Sense of Community with Communal Cooking

Senior Apartments
7/15/2016

Maintaining a sense of community is one of our primary focuses at Heritage Community. Accomplished in a number of ways, including regular games of Bridge, an on-site salon and spa and scheduled reading groups, we aim to provide our senior residents with a wealth of fun, engaging activities that help them hold on to their sense of community. Among these things, many of our communities offer an open kitchen and weekly cooking events. These events are a great way for our residents to get together, spend time among friends and participate in an activity that benefits their peers. In this post, we’re going to look at a few ways that communal cooking helps to build – and maintain – a sense of community.

Because of this, we wanted to compile a list of tips that will help you stay cool, comfortable and – most importantly – healthy during these warm summer months.

Spotting Alzheimer’s, Five Signs to Look For

Senior Citizen
12/28/2015

If you’ve noticed changes in your loved one’s behavior, you may be harboring concerns about their memory. Are they suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer’s? Do they have another form of dementia? For most people, these questions can be difficult, both to answer and to struggle with. One of the first things that you should do is consult with a doctor and, to help them draw an accurate conclusion, present them with notes about your loved one’s behaviors. Your notes will help them accurately assess the situation and, hopefully, get your loved one the help that they need. But, what notes should you be taking? What signs should you look for?
