Since its founding in 1945, Heritage Community of Kalamazoo has provided seniors living in West Michigan with exemplary personalized residential care on our campus. We take our commitment to area seniors one step further with our Memory Care Learning Center which offers education and information to help individuals and families living with dementia feel supported and equipped to navigate their own journey. The Center is not just for residents and staff of Heritage Community. It’s open to care providers from across the region – both professional and family – as well as others in the larger community who want to learn more about memory care. Best of all? Programming at The Memory Care Learning Center is free.
This is Heritage Community’s commitment to meeting the next great challenge in senior care — caring for a growing population of people with Alzheimer’s or dementia as our population ages. The impact of Alzheimer’s — the only leading cause of death in the U.S. that cannot be prevented or cured — cannot be understated. Its effects are felt by both the individual and the family and friends who provide care, often with no compensation and little formal training. It takes a village to support and care for a loved one who is living with dementia.
At the Memory Care Learning Center, our free events and educational sessions are designed to support those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia as well as their caregivers. Please join us to learn more about a person-centered, compassionate approach to dementia care which includes the essential elements of friendship: respect, empathy, support, trust, and humor.
The Memory Care Learning Center is the premier Alzheimer’s and dementia education resource center in the greater Kalamazoo area. Free programs, support groups and helpful resources are offered for individuals caring for someone at home or in a senior care community.
Participants learn practices and skills through sessions offered both virtually and in person.
Training and support for subsequent stages of the diseases help caregivers better engage someone with the disease while emphasizing dignity and compassion for both sides of the relationship.

As an extension of Heritage Community of Kalamazoo, the Memory Care Learning Center draws upon Heritage’s long-standing and important role in the caring for seniors since 1945 as well as the strong memory care provisions found within the two specialized communities of Meilland Square and Hawthorn Landing.
Outside of Heritage Community, the Memory Care Learning Center has numerous partnerships with area resources including medical/research-based organizations and advocacy organizations dedicated to finding a cure for and treating Alzheimer’s and related disease.
