Join Mary Grace, from Unwindings, for a 15-minute complimentary Reiki session. Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of therapy that uses a simple technique to improve the flor of life energy in a person. Reiki’s goal is to put balance back into the energy system, assisting the body in healing itself.
Reiki can help:
  • Increase relaxation
  • Increase emotional and spiritual balance
  • Reduce stress
  • Improve sleep
  • And much more!
A gentle hands-on approach or a no-touch option will be available.
Reiki sessions are open to all caregivers and their families.

We will experience how the sound and vibration of the various instruments help the mind and body move into a state of relaxation. This is a wonderful opportunity to sit in stillness while the mind and body are soothed by the beauty of sound.
Even when words fail, sound is able to touch a place within, bringing comfort to the mind and body.

This is a COMPANION PROGRAM for caregivers and their loved ones to experience together and a CAREGIVER WELLNESS program for caregivers to experience independently.
Please join us for a support group facilitated by one of Heritage’s memory care professionals and a familial caregiver who have a wealth of experience related to dementia care. Connect with others and find a sense of community as a dementia caregiver.

Join Courtney Way, Training and Development Manager at Heritage Community, for Best Friends™:Knack. It will include a brief overview of Alzheimer’s and dementia before jumping right to how we help the person have the best quality of life possible.
People with dementia experience a range of difficult feelings, including isolation, loneliness, anxiety, fear, anger and embarrassment. Our goal as Best Friends™ care partners is always to react with calm and creativity. We learn to use the Knack to try different approaches that help to redirect the person into a better emotional place.

We will talk about the properties of the parts of the plant that produce aroma, experience them through inhalation, and discuss using these aromas in products. Incorporating essential oils into your daily routine can be a valuable tool for supporting your wellness.

APPROACH TO CHALLENGING BEHAVIORS PART II
Join Courtney Way, Training and Development Manager at Heritage Community, for the Best Friends™ approach to challenging behaviors. With the Best Friends™ approach, there will be a lot of good days. Of course, challenges inevitably arise, such as confusion, lack of judgment, personality change, and cognitive decline. This presentation will introduce the 3-step Best Friends™ approach to creatively address challenging behavior: identify triggers, use the Life Story for insight, and communicate with others to reduce challenging behaviors.
**Note — It is not necessary to have attended Part I in order to attend Part II**
