Three Things to Consider When Choosing a Senior Living Provider

Everyone wants the best care possible for the seniors in their life once they’re no longer able to live completely independently. It’s always a good idea to look into what options are available as far as what provider to choose, but also what level of care is necessary. Some senior living apartments only provide a place to live and access to activities while others, that are assisted living, provide meals three times a day as well as assistance with medication, dressing, bathroom, and more. In this post, we will look at things you should consider when choosing a senior living provider.

1. Quality of life

Location is important. When possible it’s a good idea for the residents to live somewhere where friends and family can come by and visit often. Aesthetics are also important. Your loved one should feel comfortable in their new home. How is the food? Is it something nutritious as well as something they will enjoy eating? Pay attention to staff. Are they friendly and happy?

2. What others say and how you feel

Talk to residents who are already living there and their families. Ask them what they like and don’t like about being there. Talk to staff, nurses, and volunteers to get a feel for what a typical day is like for seniors in their care.

3. Activities, programs, and entertainment available

This is a big one. It is so important your loved ones stay engaged. Whether it be senior fitness, wellness programs, salon & spas, or music.

At Heritage Community of Kalamazoo, we know how difficult it can be to make the transition to a senior living community. We do everything we can to enrich the lives of our residents and provide their families with peace of mind knowing they’re in good hands.
