Fun, Excitement, Laughter and Your Senior Health

Assisted Living
2/16/2017

When you’re stressed out, sad or overwhelmed, there’s no better cure than laughter! Here at Heritage Community, we believe in building a strong sense of community, a place where seniors can get out, enjoy themselves and have a good time with their friends and family. Our assisted living facilities offer a wealth of social opportunities that aim to provide seniors with access to exciting events, like theater visits, and socially engaging amenities, like our on-site salon. We believe that these offerings create a sense of fun and excitement but, more than that, they encourage smiling, laughter and enjoyment. In this post, we’re going to look at the benefits of laughter on senior health.

No matter the age, unless you’re a young kid who loves playing in the snow, winter brings on a feeling of just wanting to hibernate – you know, stay inside under a blanket. Not only is it cold, it gets dark very early and there isn’t a whole lot of sunshine. Relatives who visit may not be able to stop by as often in the winter. It’s important for everyone, but especially seniors to make sure they stay active during the winter months. Staying active is important to their physical and mental self. This can be something as simple as socializing, but getting their blood pumping and mind working is even better!

As we grow older, the risks of heat stroke, dehydration and heat-related illness increase. Senior Citizen

If you’ve noticed changes in your loved one’s behavior, you may be harboring concerns about their memory. Are they suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer’s? Do they have another form of dementia? For most people, these questions can be difficult, both to answer and to struggle with. One of the first things that you should do is consult with a doctor and, to help them draw an accurate conclusion, present them with notes about your loved one’s behaviors. Your notes will help them accurately assess the situation and, hopefully, get your loved one the help that they need. But, what notes should you be taking? What signs should you look for?
