Assisted Living
11/4/2016

Everyone wants the best care possible for the seniors in their life once they’re no longer able to live completely independently. It’s always a good idea to look into what options are available as far as what provider to choose, but also what level of care is necessary. Some senior living apartments only provide a place to live and access to activities while others, that are assisted living, provide meals three times a day as well as assistance with medication, dressing, bathroom, and more. In this post, we will look at things you should consider when choosing a senior living provider.

Why It’s Important for Seniors to Exercise

Assisted Living Facility
8/4/2016

Regular exercise is important for any age group, but it is even more so for seniors. Everyone knows that leading a very sedentary lifestyle has serious negative effects on your health and even your immune system. A large majority of seniors over 65, between sleeping and sitting down, spend most of their time completely inactive. As people get older, it becomes harder to move around because of arthritis and joint issues, but continuously incorporating fitness into your daily routine can slow down the progression of weakening muscles and bones. In this post we will look at specific reasons why exercise is so beneficial for seniors.

Building a Sense of Community with Communal Cooking

Senior Apartments
7/15/2016

Maintaining a sense of community is one of our primary focuses at Heritage Community. Accomplished in a number of ways, including regular games of Bridge, an on-site salon and spa and scheduled reading groups, we aim to provide our senior residents with a wealth of fun, engaging activities that help them hold on to their sense of community. Among these things, many of our communities offer an open kitchen and weekly cooking events. These events are a great way for our residents to get together, spend time among friends and participate in an activity that benefits their peers. In this post, we’re going to look at a few ways that communal cooking helps to build – and maintain – a sense of community.

6/30/2016

As we grow older, the risks of heat stroke, dehydration and heat-related illness increase. In fact, many seniors, wary of the cost associated with cooling their homes, adjust their thermostats to avoid using their air conditioning. As a result, the summer months can be particularly difficult for many seniors and, if they aren’t careful, can lead to severe discomfort and even outright illness. Because of this, we wanted to compile a list of tips that will help you stay cool, comfortable and – most importantly – healthy during these warm summer months.

Music Therapy
4/19/2016

Psychologists and the general public have known it for years: music is a powerful agent that boosts creativity, raises spirits and enhances memory. As a result of this, music is a great tool for individuals with memory impairments. Useful in combating the effects of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, music has been shown to help recall memories based on the emotional response that it evokes.
