See your doctor

As we get older, seeing the doctor becomes more and more important. Even if you don’t feel as though you have any new health problems it’s still important to get to the doctor and have a physical. Spring is also a good time to have your eyes tested and checked.

Get moving

If able, walking is one of the best things seniors can do to maintain their health. Spring is a great season because the cold and snow is mostly gone and the heat and humidity of summer is not yet upon us. Be sure to choose even, safe terrain to limit the risk of falls.

Take a class

Whether it is a class for physical exercise or a way to keep your mind sharp, learning and growing is an important of a healthy lifestyle for seniors.

Eat well

Most people indulge in what’s considered comfort food during the winter and that can be a recipe for health problems. Spring brings forth bounties of delicious fresh veggies and fruits to enjoy.

Drink enough water

This is especially important for seniors. As the weather warms up it’s very important to drink water to prevent yourself from becoming dehydrated. Dehydration can cause a myriad of health concerns – try to get in at least 8 cups of water every single day.

Dress appropriately for the weather

Spring, especially in Michigan can mean days that are chilly, cloudy, and breezy or sunny, hot, and humid. Always check the weather before going out for the day to make sure you’re properly dressed for the weather. Also, if it’s going to be sunny, make sure to protect your eyes with quality sunglasses.
